Therapy for the Highly Sensitive Person
Do you tend to be emotional?
Do people often say that you’re overly sensitive?
Do social events wear you out?
One of my passions is working with teens and adults that are considered highly sensitive. The highly sensitive trait is found in 20% of the population. This is not a disorder, but rather a character trait like being extroverted. Highly Sensitive People (HSPs) are not just sensitive emotionally. Their nervous systems are much more reactive to outside stimuli. This can affect not only the emotional body, but the mental, physical and spiritual as well. Therapy for the highly sensitive person can help you better navigate this trait.
What are the signs of a Highly Sensitive Person?
- Other people often tell you not to take things so personal
- You seem to feel much more deeply than other people
- Your feelings get hurt more easily than others
- You can physically feel the pain of those in distress
- You live inside your head
- You absorb the mood of those around you
- Making decisions is painful because you don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings
- Negativity can overwhelm you
- Horror films, violent TV shows and images are disturbing to you and cause you distress
- You tend to get so overwhelmed, especially in social situations, that you need to be alone in order to recharge
- Being in crowded areas stresses you out
- You are introverted
- You have a lower threshold for pain
- You tend to cry easily
- You tend to be more sensitive to bright lights, loud noises, smells and medications

- You are prone to feeling anxious or depressed
HOW MANY TIMES DID YOU SAY “YES, THAT’S ME?”
You don’t have to say yes to all of them, but the more that apply, the more likely you are a Highly Sensitive Person. I love being able to guide HSPs to living their best possible lives.
I CAN HELP YOU TO:
01
COPE BETTER
Help teach you coping skills and help you develop a self-care routine that will help you feel less overwhelmed day-to-day
02
SELF-ESTEEM
Increase your self-esteem in situations that are currently making you uncomfortable and help you feel OK with being an HSP
03
SET BOUNDARIES
I can help you to be more assertive, set boundaries and say no. You will then avoid the cycle of giving and giving until burnout
FAQS ABOUT THERAPY
Therapy can feel strange at first. The first session is all about getting to know you. I want to know what made you decide to come to therapy, any symptoms you are experiencing and any goals you have for the therapy process. By the end of the first meeting I will give you an individualized course of action.
Typically, we will continue to meet weekly for the first 6-8 weeks, reassess your progress and determine how often you need to come moving forward.
Each 55 minute session is $90.
Think of therapy as an investment into your mental and emotional health. The results you see will not only impact your future, but those around you as well.
I accept cash, check, credit card and Health Savings or Flex Spending Account cards.
*I have a limited amount of reduced fee slots available for those in financial need. Contact me to learn more.

I take a holistic approach to therapy, meaning that I take into consideration all areas of your life and not just your mental health.
My sessions are relaxed and conversational. I want you to feel safe to open up and explore the areas of your life that you may be struggling with. You get to direct where the conversation goes. If you don’t want to talk about something just yet, you don’t have to. I may try to nudge you to dig deeper when I feel that you’re ready, but you have the final say.
The length of the therapy process is different for each person.

I choose not to use insurance because I value your privacy and personal choice. Many people do not know that when you use your insurance for therapy, your therapist will need to provide you with a diagnosis. This diagnosis will follow you and must be declared on all health documents as a preexisting condition. This information could potentially impact you down the road when it comes to applying for life insurance or certain jobs.
Mental health diagnoses don’t consider any other factors that might be making your mental and emotional health worse, including situational factors, relational factors, trauma, income level, oppression, racial inequalities or injustices, ability to receive adequate care, housing etc. Often these are the root cause of many mental health related issues.
I believe that you know yourself best. When you use your insurance for therapy, you are no longer in charge of your treatment. Your insurance company will determine what your therapy looks like, who you can see and how long your therapy lasts.
I want you to make the most informed decision possible. If you decide you would like to use insurance and your insurance plan has out-of-network benefits, I can provide you with a receipt detailing your therapy and you may be reimbursed for your treatment.
